"Ozark Memories"

Ozark Memories

This 5" X 7" original watercolor was painted to visually represent the barns of the Ozarks. As one travels along many mostly county roads where "civilization" has not encroached upon the "old ways of the Hills," one can see the memories of those who developed a simple but full-filling life. I spent a lot of time around such barns, either milking cows by hand or stacking hay during season..

Shepherd of the Hills Print

Old Matt's Cabin

Old Matt's Cabin is the homestead home of J.K. Ross and his wife Anna. This couple, along with their son Charles, became the foundation of the novel penned by Harold Bell Wright. The "Shepherd of the Hills" novel was published by Harold Bell Wright in 1902 and became a National Best Seller. I gave tours at the original homestead of the Ross's, known as Old Matt and Aunt Molly in the story.
Upon leaving tour guide duties I became a landscape painter. One of my first serious attempts was to capture the cabin as I saw it everyday that I conducted these tours.
